Watershed Development – ‘Ridge to Valley’

Government of India (GOI) has declared Scheduled Tribes as deprived communities that need special care.  Social Centre began working in the year 2000 to integrate tribal communities into the mainstream of society. Through the Integrated Tribal Community Development Programme, Social Centre is now working in more than 30 Thakkar and Bhil tribal hamlets in Parner Taluka through Community Based Organisations (CBOs).  Watershed Development – ‘Ridge to Valley’ is a pioneering models of watershed  development by the Social Centre in year 1980s. The trust of this strategy of saving and conserving  each drop of water follow from above and restoration of it  in ground to improve water table in the ground. It starts at the  top of the mountain and end at plain surface of the ground  level and try to save every drop of rain fallen in the catchment area . various techniques are used as per the  soil, slop of the land. Soil and water conservation are two sided goals are achieved. So far more than 133 villages have benefited from the same.
